  • Sen. Greg Reed presented the Education Block Grant to the Walker County Board of Education Ms Guthrie and Dr. Hagood accepted


    Sen. Greg Reed awarded an Education Block Grant for $21,000. Dr. Joel Hagood Superintendant of Walker County Schools and Margert Guthrie director of health services accepted the grant that will allow for 18 new Zoll AED Plus Devices to be placed in the schools. These new AEDs will replace some of the devices that have been in the schools since 2000. Dr. Hagood said having AEDs that are reliable and accessible help to ensure the safety of our schools system's students and Employees.

    Bankhead Robotics team now has  a new name. Cordova C.H.A.O.S. The team was founded in 2011 by Sponsor Amber Parsons. This team is composed of both middle school and high school students from BMS and Cordova High. The team has is a tight-knit group that work well together,  The Team needs your help.     The Walker County Board of Education is leading Heart Safe practices in Alabama.

    All of the school system's 16 schools, as well as the Walker County Center of Technology, have been deemed a Project ADAM Heart Safe School — an impressive feat that has only been accomplished by one other school system in Alabama.

  • Curry coach honored for sports inclusion

    Pictured is Curry Middle School Coach Jamie Harding with London Farris. He was recently honored for encouraging Farris to join the school's volleyball team.

    There was hardly a dry eye at the Walker County Board of Education meeting on Thursday, as Curry Middle School Coach Jamie Harding was recognized for seeing past circumstance to embrace one girl's determined spirit.

    Harding was presented the Arc of Alabama School Inclusion Award in November 2018, for allowing London Farris to play on the Curry Middle School volleyball team..

    Activities: I’m currently president of the Lupton Jr. High School National Jr. Beta Club.  I play basketball, volleyball and shoot archery for Lupton Jr. High. I am a member of Lupton’s Drama Club, Quiz Bowl, and G.A.T.E.S. program.  I am a leader of our student-led Christian programs.
